The Data Protection Act 2018 is the UK’s implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which changed the way organisations manage personal data. The Joint Industry Board for the Electrical Contracting Industry (JIB) takes the security and privacy of your data seriously and we intend to comply with our legal obligations.
As part of our business, and to manage our relationship with you, we need to gather and use information or ‘data’ about you. In line with GDPR, the JIB will:
- process data fairly, lawfully and transparently
- collect data and process it only for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes
- only collect data which is adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary for the purposes for which it is processed
- keep data accurate and up to date, rectifying inaccurate data without delay or deleting such data
- not keep data longer than is reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it is processed
- keep data secure.
GDPR gives you more control over how your data is used. We encourage you to click on the link to read the JIB Data Protection and Privacy Policy which sets out why we collect data, what data is collected, how we use it, with whom we share it and other information of relevance.
JIB Data Protection and Subject Access Request Statement
We have produced a guide to the right of access to personal information which can be downloaded here. Information about how to access the personal information we hold about you relating to the MyECS Portal on the ECS website is also available by logging into your MyECS Account.
Website Privacy Statement
The JIB administers the JIB website www.jib.org.uk and the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) website www.ecscard.org.uk.

Data Protection Guidance for your business
GDPR affects all companies including small employers. Employers need to consider how data is collected, used and stored, including all the processes which are performed with the data. To assist with managing the personal data of employees, workers and consultants, the JIB has created a GDPR Privacy Policy template which can be used by JIB Member Companies.
