JIB Rates of Pay 2024 – Apprentice Rate Updates

The JIB Apprentice rates will be aligned to the National Minimum Wage for 2024.

Apprentices under the JIB Agreement are paid either (i) National Standard or (ii) London rates. There is then a split between At Work rates and At College rates.

Electrical Apprentices progress through four stages of the apprenticeship, for which each stage represents an increase in the rate of pay (Stages 1 to 4), before completion and attainment of Electrician occupation and grading.

To ensure JIB rates of pay comply with the National Minimum Wage the rates were increased as follows: (new rates are in italics):

National Standard 2024
 At CollegeAt Work
Apprentice (Stage 4)   £12.09£13.32
Apprentice (Stage 3)£11.35  £11.44£12.40
Apprentice (Stage 2)£8.01  £8.60£8.66

The above comes into effect from Monday 1st January 2024 (in line with other wage rate changes). The increases for 2024 and 2025 have been publicised since July. These are further updates to those rates. Full rates of pay can be found in Section 2 of the JIB Handbook (National Working Rules) and in Section 5 for the sector specific rates.

For apprentices outside the first year of their apprenticeship and over 19 years old, apprentices are entitled to the higher of:

•    The National Minimum Wage / National Living Wage for their age, or
•    The JIB rate of pay for their grade.
