The Joint Industry Board (JIB) extends congratulations to the Labour Party on its success in the 2024 General Election.
We look forward to working with the Government to enact plans to upskill workers and ensure future generations have the skills to succeed. We are ready to bring our sector expertise to initiatives outlined in the Labour Party’s manifesto, such as Skills England, which seeks to engage businesses, training providers, unions and the Government to achieve the highly trained workers the country needs.
JIB Chief Executive Jay Parmar said: “We welcome the introduction of manifesto commitments which support businesses to invest in future skills. By working hand-in-hand, the JIB and the Government can lay the foundations for future growth and skills, delivering a dynamic and prosperous economy.”
The new Government’s National Procurement Plan aims to mandate consideration of social value within contracts. This aligns with JIB member companies who strive to boost the local economy and maintain standards, by directly employing a skilled workforce.
Jay Parmar commented: “The activation of procurement rules – which better recognise those firms, such as JIB members, committed to creating local jobs, enhancing skills, generating wealth, and treating their workers with respect – is highly encouraged.”
As well as playing a crucial role in economic growth, the electrotechnical sector is central to plans to make the UK a ‘clean energy superpower’ and to meeting Net Zero targets. The JIB appreciates the Government’s focus on training the workforce to ensure we have the necessary skills to achieve these goals.
Jay Parmar concluded: “As we transition to a net zero economy, we look ahead to contributing to these efforts and ensuring that our shared vision becomes a reality. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with the Government in the coming years to build a greener and safer nation.”
