JIB Chair and Board Member appointed to the House of Lords

The Joint Industry Board for the Electrical Contracting Industry (JIB) proudly welcomes news that Professor Wendy Alexander, JIB Chair, and Sir Brendan Barber, JIB National Board Member, have been appointed Labour peers by the UK Government in recognition of their exceptional contributions to public life.

Professor Alexander, who commenced her role as JIB Chair on 1 January 2025, has held an illustrious career in politics, trade, and investment. She has served as Vice Principal and Professor at the University of Dundee and Chair of the Advisory Board for International Education at The Times Higher Education. She is Deputy Chair of the British Council. This appointment reflects her unwavering commitment to driving growth and supporting the next generation. Professor Alexander, who will receive the title Baroness Alexander of Cleveden, commented:
“I am honoured to be appointed to the House of Lords. I look forward to working within Parliament to ensure the UK rises to opportunities to drive growth and supports the next generation to build a better and fairer society.”

Sir Brendan Barber, a highly respected figure in industrial relations, has been a member of the JIB National Board since 2020. Sir Brendan previously served as General Secretary of the TUC (2003–2012) and Chair of Acas (2014–2020). This peerage recognises his lifetime dedication to advocating for workers and fostering collaboration across the UK’s workforce.

Sir Brendan will receive the title, Lord Barber of Ainsdale. He shared:
“I am honoured by this recognition. I welcome the opportunity this offers to continue to champion those people whose work is essential for a successful economy and society.”
