JIB Resolution Procedure Updates

In the last quarter of 2024, the JIB hosted a webinar about the JIB Resolution Procedure outlining the benefits it delivers for JIB member companies and recent updates to the process.

Andy Reakes, Chief Operating Officer, JIB & ECS; Jason Poulter, National Officer Construction Sector, Unite; and Catherine Watt, Head of Employee Relations, ECA; each gave their perspective on this valuable service. The session outlined how the resolution procedure works, why it continues to be successful and reasons for the 2024 updates.

The JIB has had an effective structure to resolve disputes for more than 50 years and the recent review aimed to streamline the process and improve accessibility.

Changes include:

  • Clearer guidance on the process within Section 3 of the JIB Handbook
  • Updated forms with clearer steps
  • A process set out for collective grievances
  • Increased focus on conciliation
  • A standard timeframe of 3 months to assist with early resolution
  • Avoiding duplication
  • A simplified compensation model which encompasses losses up to the date of the hearing
  • Limiting permitted representation to ECA and Unite the Union.

The JIB resolution procedure is a free, voluntary process and is available for members to access from day one. It strives to resolve disputes and minimise cost and reputational impact for employers and employees.
